This is Allie, the plumber’s apprentice, from Mr. Plumber Plumbing Company here at St. Phillip’s College plumbing lab, and today I’m going to talk to you about how to clean your aerator.
Aerators are really common water conservation devices that are placed on most of your home kitchen or lavatory sinks. The aerator can have build-up over time, so you want to make sure that you loosen it up and look at it, make sure that there isn’t any debris, you can turn on your water and clear the debris.
If there is an excessive amount of debris, you might want to place the aerator in a bowl of vinegar for about 30 minutes or so. After that, you can screw it back on, make sure you tighten it, but don’t over tighten it, and you can use a wrench to do so. If the aerator is really rusted over, you might want to just go ahead and replace it. They’re less than $20 and can be found at your local hardware store.
